Your drywall questions.
How much does a partition wall or suspended ceiling cost?
The price of a drywall partition or suspended ceiling in Mauritius depends on the area, the type of board (standard or moisture-resistant), whether insulation is added, any spotlights or niches to build in and the finish: ready to paint or fully finished. Our agent measures up during a free visit, then draws up a detailed, itemised quote, with no obligation.
Is drywall suitable for a bathroom?
Yes, with moisture-resistant plasterboard designed for damp rooms such as bathrooms and kitchens. In areas that get directly wet, like the shower, waterproofing under the tiles completes the protection. Our agent tells you the right solution during the visit, taking into account the humidity of the Mauritian climate.
How long does it take to put up a partition?
How long it takes to put up a drywall partition depends on the area, the number of openings, the conduits to run and the finish chosen (taping, filler, paint). Drywall goes up dry, with no waiting for masonry to dry out, which makes it a quick way to rearrange a room. Timescales are set out in Nova’s quote.
Drywall partition or block wall: which should I choose?
A drywall partition is light, quick to put up, makes it easy to run electrical conduits and is simpler to modify than a masonry wall; a block wall is more solid and stands up better to knocks. To divide a living room or create a bedroom in Mauritius, drywall on a metal frame is often the simplest solution. Our agent goes over how the room will be used with you before choosing.
Does a drywall partition block noise?
A basic drywall partition separates rooms but lets some noise through. Adding mineral wool between the boards and taking care over the joints makes a clear difference to the acoustic comfort of a bedroom or study. Our agent proposes the right partition build-up for each room of your home in Mauritius.
Can spotlights and LEDs be fitted in a suspended ceiling?
Yes: a drywall suspended ceiling hides the conduits and takes recessed spotlights, LED strips or an illuminated ceiling. The cables are run before the boards are closed up, which is why it pays to plan the lighting at the quote stage. Nova takes care of the suspended ceiling and the electrics that go with it, with a single point of contact.
Does drywall stand up to the humid Mauritian climate?
Drywall is fitted on a metal frame, which doesn’t rot and isn’t affected by termites. In damp rooms, Nova fits moisture-resistant boards, and each room gets boards suited to how it is used. Any leak or water ingress must, however, be fixed before fitting: drywall is no substitute for waterproofing.
Can a TV or shelves be mounted on drywall?
Yes, as long as it is planned: reinforcements are placed inside the drywall partition before closing up, where the TV unit, shelves or wall cupboards will go. For light loads, plugs designed for plasterboard are enough. Tell our agent what you plan to hang when measuring up, so it is included in the quote.
What else can be built in drywall besides partitions?
As well as partitions and suspended ceilings, Nova uses drywall for wall linings, to straighten a damaged wall with or without insulation, and for bespoke niches, TV units and headboards. These built-in features give a clean look and blend in with the room’s decor.
Is the drywall handed over ready to paint or finished?
Either is possible: Nova hands over drywall ready to paint (taping, filling and sanding done) or fully finished, paint included. The level of finish is specified in the itemised quote. In a full renovation in Mauritius, painting and decoration can follow in the same schedule.
Can I stay at home while the drywall is being fitted?
That depends on the scale of the work: drywall goes up dry and room by room, but sanding the joints creates dust. Our agent plans the job with you to protect the furniture and keep disruption to a minimum, and tells you during the visit what is realistic for your home.
How do I get a quote for drywall partitions or a suspended ceiling in Mauritius?
For drywall partitions or a suspended ceiling, describe your project in a few clicks in Nova’s quote request, with photos and the approximate dimensions of the room if you can. Our agent will call you back within 24 to 72 hours, on WhatsApp or by phone, to arrange a free visit anywhere in Mauritius. You then receive a detailed, itemised quote, free and with no obligation.
Do you work all over the island?
Yes, Nova works across the whole of Mauritius: the North (Grand Baie, Triolet, Pereybère), the West (Tamarin, Flic-en-Flac, Rivière Noire), the Centre (Moka, Quatre Bornes, Curepipe), the East (Flacq, Belle Mare, Trou d’Eau Douce) and the South (Mahébourg, Souillac, Bel Ombre).
